I went to Heroes last night, Chris Ewen's DJ night that now makes its home at TT The Bears Place here in Cambridge, MA. Some friends and I got to be talkin' about Man Ray, as we are wont to do when we're feeling nostalgic, and then [info]emmascully said "I wish I could have gone once." And then it hit me: someone needs to make a virtual Man Ray! How hilarious would that be?

i remember my first time at manray. it was like being in a virtual world, so that would totally be a good idea.

ha. I was thinking the only way the VMR would work is if there was a perfection of complete immersive senses. Which would have to include smell in this case. It just would have to. Everyone talks about the smell over just about anything else.

So, actually, I guess all you really need to do is bottle "Manray - the SCENT," put Swamp Thing by the Chameleons on a large sound system, and shine a colored light directly in someone's eyes.

Oh, I miss that smell...
Years and years of cloves mixed with who knows what.
And the smell actually lasted. I remember taking a big lacy vintage skirt I had out of my closet a year or so after leaving Boston. Something I hadn't worn since then, and there were traces of the smell still in it.
Sweet and dusty and strange and nostalgic...

We should totally develop Man Ray: The Role Playing Game.

I know I'd have amazing "Booze Passed Between Bathroom Stalls While Underage" stats.

I can help with character designs. Mainly, the gentleman who sauntered about wearing naught but a silver Andy Warhol toupee, a black leather codpiece with matching criss-cross leather bandelier, and brand new modern trainers. Also, the 300+ pound lady wearing a flowing gown and displaying a shelf of decolletage roughly the size of the pool table they kept in the front.

Oh, wow...
It'd be totally easy to do in Second Life. You could probably even get a Ms. Pac Man somewhere (or was it regular Pac man? It's been a bazillion years).
As you probably already know, it wouldn't be hard to stream music in...

In June, when we're settled in Providence, we should talk about this.

Yeah I was also gonna suggest doing it in SL. Too bad it's not 2006 anymore.
